More Than Pizza: How PLAY Opportunities Build Confidence and Community

When people think about opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), employment and housing are often the first things that come to mind. While those opportunities are incredibly important, there’s another piece of the puzzle that deserves just as much attention: PLAY.

At The IDDeal Foundation, PLAY is one of the core pillars of our mission because everyone deserves the opportunity to have fun, build friendships, discover new interests, and create meaningful memories. Inclusive recreational experiences do more than fill a calendar—they foster confidence, strengthen social connections, and create a true sense of belonging.

A Slice of Community

Recently, our members had the opportunity to enjoy a very special pizza-making experience at Le Sorelle Restaurant in Boca Raton, and it was such a beautiful reminder of why PLAY matters.

From making pizzas together to sharing laughs around the table, the afternoon was filled with friendship, connection, and joy. It wasn’t just about learning how to make pizza: it was about trying something new, encouraging one another, and spending quality time together in a welcoming environment.

Moments like these are often the ones that leave the biggest impression.

Why PLAY Matters

For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), meaningful community experiences can open doors to new friendships, greater confidence, and stronger connections. Whether it’s learning a new skill, visiting a local business, or simply sharing a meal with friends, these opportunities help create a richer, more inclusive life.

At The IDDeal Foundation, we believe a fulfilling life is about more than work or where you live. It’s also about laughter, belonging, and having the opportunity to experience the everyday moments that bring people together.

That’s why PLAY continues to be such an important part of our mission: every outing, class, and community experience is another opportunity to celebrate abilities, build relationships, and create memories that last long after the day is over.

We’re incredibly grateful to Le Sorelle Restaurant for opening their doors and making our members feel so welcome.
